When it comes to information service, Unilab’s partners in healthcare become UMED-Science Information Management’s top priority. This service extends to our neighbors in Southeast Asia. Ever since the on-line information has been introduced about four years ago, representatives from Darya-Varia – Unilab’s subsidiary in Indonesia – along with their doctors come in groups to visit UMED-SIM. On February 19, 2010, a group of Indonesian MDs including the president of the Indonesian Society of Hypertension Dr. A. (Ann) Soenarta toured the library to check out its resources.

Together with Dr. Soenarta were Drs. Asnil Sahim, Asdaria Tenri, Masrul Syafri and Nizam Akbar. UMED-SIM Manager Robert Saw oriented the group with the unit’s products and services. He introduced the MD Central - - the on-line information service. The MD Central is a web portal within the Unilab internet website which allows on-line requests and retrieval of medical and scientific information. The Indonesian doctors expressed their delight that they could avail of UMED-SIM’s information service. When they learned that UMED-SIM privilege card was a prerequisite for the info service access, the Indonesians immediately applied for membership. The doctors also took a look at UMED-SIM’s Science Book e-dition. Science Book e-dition consists of an ever-widening array of books in electronic format. They enthusiastically checked out the collection of about 700 e-books. Saw also presented Unilab’s own database called the e-Scientific Database. He informed the doctors of its unique feature - - aside from the journals and books acquired worldwide, the database contains a Filipiniana section. In this section are articles and clinical trials conducted by Filipino physicians.

With more than a hundred Indonesian privilege card members, UMED-SIM looks forward to providing the Indonesian doctors with clinical studies and other medical information.
