The UMED TB TEAM, with its partner-collaborator, Medichem Division, began the "Basic TB Directly Observed Treatment Short Course Therapy (DOTS) Course for Referring Physicians" roadshow at the Lung Center of the Philippines (Nov 14 and 21, 2003) followed by Calamba Medical Center, Laguna (Nov 28), then Ponte Fino Hotel in Batangas City (Dec 12). Right after the Christmas break, the TEAM packed their things again and started the year with a long travel to the north to Seares Hospital in Bangued Abra (Jan 21), Oasis Hotel in La Union (Jan 23), and Manor Hotel in Baguio City (Jan 24). The tour was truly exhausting , however it seemed that fatigue is not enough to stop the TEAM to accomplish its mission. They just went home only to change their luggages then proceeded south to Pryce Hotel, Cagayan De Oro (Jan 27) and Marco Polo Hotel,Davao City (Jan 29). They went north again to Hotel Roma, Tuguegarao City (Jan 30), then to the east-Crown Hotel, Naga City (Feb 6), and up again a day before Valentine to Star Hotel,Dagupan City (Feb 13).
As the campaign roadshow of politicians heightened before the election, so did UMED's campaign to fight TB. The TEAM even met some presidentiables, senatoriables, and the comelec during their tour to Roxas City (Feb 16), IloIlo City (Feb 17), Bacolod City(Feb 18), and Cebu City (Feb 24). Even news of election crimes such as bombings and killings did not hinder the TEAM to go bravely to Zamboanga City (Mar 11), Calapan Mindoro (Mar 18), and Cotabato City (Mar 22). Fortunately, the group was able to take a glimpse of a nice beach and cool off from the summer heat after a successful event at Kalibo Aklan (Mar 26). Airport power failure and delayed flights were not even enough to prevent the TEAM to continue the seminar at the Alejandro Hotel, Tacloban City (Mar 31). After the series of flights , the group went back to land travel to Subic Olongapo (Apr 16), Malolos Bulacan (Apr 23), and Marikina (Apr 27).
"Every Breath Counts, Stop TB now". With this goal in mind, the TEAM made sure that no time is wasted to help Filipino physicians diagnose and treat tuberculosis patients the right way- the DOTS way.
Once again, UMED was able to prove that TEAM support with the Almighty's guidance will overcome hindrances to accomplish its goals. | | | Photos | Click to Enlarge | |
